Current Appointments
Since 2018 I have provided expert opinion, assessments and comprehensive court reports for children and young people nationally. These include assessments of cognitive ability, intellectual disabilities, neurodevelopmental difficulties, mental health, risk, fitness to plead, capacity, and treatment and disposal recommendations for criminal courts. I am familiar with safeguarding procedures and structured risk tools. I am accustomed to working within a legal framework and how this applies to young people.
In addition, I offer independent psychological and neuropsychological assessment and therapeutic intervention to adults and young people in the North East of England. I routinely provide neuropsychological assessment using such psychometrics as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC), the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS), the Developmental Neuropsychological Assessment (NEPSY-II), the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS), and the Weschler Memory Scales (WMS). I also offer therapeutic interventions such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), cognitive rehabilitation following traumatic or acquired brain injuries, and with adjusting to life long conditions to both those directly affected and their families.
My previous work within the NHS involved working within Major Trauma, paediatric, and Stroke services within inpatient and community settings.
As a service lead I also sat upon the Multi Agency Autism Team (MAAT) diagnostic panel. My NHS roles involve providing highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and a range of interventions in addition to facilitating indirect working through consultations.
Assessment and intervention rely on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex psychological data from a variety of sources including standardised assessments, observations, clinical interviews with the young person and their families, and the frequently multiple services and agencies surrounding the child.
I am also an accredited clinical supervisor and provide doctoral level teaching on Teesside University’s Clinical Psychology Doctoral program, consultation, and indirect working through my roles.
Previous Experience
My training as a Clinical Psychologist within Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust included 6-month placements within Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Child and Adolescent Learning Disability Services, Paediatrics, Adolescent Forensic Services, Adult Community Mental Health, and Clinical Psychology Services for Older People. Prior to this I was employed by Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust as an Assistant Psychologist within the Children and Young Peoples service, Adult Acute Inpatient Mental Health services, and Adult Community Mental Health services. These posts provided psychological assessments, including assessments of intellectual functioning, risk, and autistic spectrum disorders. I also provided individual and group interventions such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Family Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
